About Petra Christian Pre-School

Petra Christian Pre-School was established in 1990 and we celebrated our Silver Jubilee in 2015. Petra has a proven track record in Early Childhood Development. Petra encourages children to develop a love of learning. Our daily programme is based on the child’s need for love, security, self-worth, relationships with others and developing responsibilities. At Petra we provide a warm and loving homely atmosphere. We cater for children from 4 months to 6 years (Grade R).

VISION

Our vision is to “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”(Proverbs 22 v 6). We want to instill Christian principles in the children, teach them about the love of God and give them an excellent academic foundation. Our aim is to encourage respect for others and self-discipline. To provide a healthy, loving, caring environment where babies, toddlers and children feel safe and secure. To make learning fun and to encourage independence, constructive problem solving, positive self-esteem and improved self-worth, as well as a love of learning.

MISSION STATEMENT

We want all our children to reach their God-given potential in life and our aim is to provide them with excellent pre-school education, life skills, Christian principles and loving care. Jeremiah 29 verse 11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

OUR CURRICULUM

Petra Christian Pre-School uses the G.D.E (Gauteng Department of Education) approved CAPS curriculum for Grade R. Our curriculum is designed to suit children from 4 months to 6 years and meets all their educational and developmental needs. Our teaching is Christian based. We have qualified and experienced staff who are all First Aid Trained.

NURSERY

Infants are nurtured through a variety of sensory and movement experiences. The importance of following each baby's sleep, feeding and play routines, as it is done at home, is mirrored in our care. The importance of communication between parents and teachers is emphasized through a daily record of each baby's activities, food intake and diaper routine.

Testimonials

Andrew Wainwright

A solid, deep foundation is the key to reaching extraordinary heights—this truth is embodied in the incredible journeys of my three phenomenal daughters, Jade, Caitlin, and Eden. Their remarkable achievements, both now and in the future, owe so much to the unwavering groundwork laid during their time at Petra Pre-School. Under the nurturing leadership of Principal Lorraine and the exceptional guidance of Teacher Megan De Beer, my girls discovered a lifelong passion for learning, particularly through their love of reading, which blossomed under Teacher Megan’s caring and inspiring teaching style from an early age.

The results speak for themselves. All three have consistently excelled academically, earning top-of-class honours year after year. Jade’s dedication earned her the prestigious Dux Scholar title, now shines as Monica Residence Head of House at Stellenbosch University, while Caitlin’s leadership qualities led her to become High School Head Girl. Eden, following in her sisters’ footsteps, is showing the same aptitude for excellence. Beyond academics, they’ve thrived culturally and athletically, showcasing well-rounded achievement.

While their home and spiritual upbringing provided a bedrock of values, Petra Pre-School’s role cannot be overstated. Principal Lorraine, Teacher Megan, and the entire staff instilled in them the curiosity, discipline, and confidence to chase their ambitions fearlessly. As a father, I am forever grateful to Petra for shaping not just their early years, but the trajectory of their lives. The brightness of their futures—and the successes still to come—are testaments to the profound impact of a truly exceptional preschool. Here’s to foundations that lift children to the stars!
